Since its inception in 2008, the annual Kyiv-based conference Film Business: Challenges, Features, Opportunities has become a popular meeting point for film industry professionals from all over the world, a platform aimed at business networking, new partnerships, sharing experience as well as discussing current film industry development issues both in the region and worldwide with special focus on film co-production. Film Business 2017 conference was supported by Ukrainian State Film Agency. 

The conference agenda includes presentations of case studies, reports on essential film industry issues, panel discussions with invited international experts held in an interactive format to analyze in detail the issues that are raised and communicate directly with the speakers. 

The conference agenda covers issues such as state support and legislative initiatives aimed at the film industry back up, film funding, types of financial participation in film projects, private investments, international co-production, legal aspects of film production and co-production, film promotion and distribution etc.

2017 edition gave a special sharper focus on Ukraine’s potential for international filmmakers.

Program of Film Business 2017

Head of publishing projects Content Report & Media Business Reports, Media Resources Management Artem Vakalyuk presented a special report “Local Films in European Cinemas. Theatrical Distribution Analysis” (Ukraine).

Head of Meetings on the Bridge and producer Gulin Ustun presented an online speech about co-production with Turkey, opening opportunities, film financing in Turkey and pitching platform for international film projects 'Neighbours' in the course of Istanbul Film Festival (Turkey). The presentation was moderated by the head of publishing projects Content Report & Media Business Reports, Media Resources Management Artem Vakalyuk.

Producer and founder of Taska Film Kristian Taska presented a case study “What It Takes to Gross €1M in 50 Movie Theaters? Feature film Class Reunion (Klassikokkutulek)” (Estonia). 

Film-, TV- and theatrical producer, co-owner of Solar TV Channel and businessman Sergey Lavreniuk together with promo producer of movie DZIDZIO Contrabass Valeriy Kozlitinov presented case study “Are the millions in Contrabass? A successful domestic release of Ukrainian movie DZIDZIO Contrabass” (Ukraine).

Producer and founder of Frakas Productions Jean-Yves Roubin presented case study “Festival and Distribution Success. Horror Movie Raw (Grave), co-production of France and Belgium” (Belgium).

Producer, founder of Orisa Produzioni and head of Bridging the Dragon Cristiano Bortone from Italy talked about collaboration with China, co-production, services, and distribution. Also, Cristiano presented a case study of Feature film Coffee (Caffe) (Italy, China) and made a presentation of platform Bridging The Dragon.

In the course of Film Business 2017 was held a panel discussion “International co-production. Opportunities for Ukraine. State Support. Feature films: The Line, Easy”. Speakers of the discussion: head of Ukrainian State Film Agency Philip Illienko (Ukraine), CEO of Fresh Production Group Oleg Shcherbyna (Ukraine), producer and founder of Garnet International Media Group Andriy Yеrmak (Ukraine) along as the producer and founder of Wandal Production Wanda Adamik Hrycova who joined the discussion online (Slovak Republic). The section was moderated by the head of publishing projects Content Report & Media Business Reports, Media Resources Management Artem Vakalyuk.

Head of international co-production at Media Resources Management Lyubov Krokhmalna made a speech “Bringing a project to the international market and finding partners. Experience of MRM” (Ukraine).  

In conclusion of the conference, producer and general producer of Odessa International Film Festival Julia Sinkevych together with the representative of TA Ventures fund Maksym Kuznetsov (Ukraine) talked about digital technologies in the film industry: tools, opportunities, trends.
