How can high technology contribute to content production and distribution? How to introduce innovations? Will algorithms replace people? Find out myths and truths about future technologies in a speech by NASA ex-analyst, Cinelytic co-founder, Dev Sen “How AI and ML are сhanging the entertainment Industry”.
Cinelytic is a content evaluation and data science company that combines AI, machine learning, and cloud-based technologies to enable professionals in the entertainment industry to make faster and better decisions about their content across the value chain. Cinelytic’s platform provides comprehensive data, predictive analytics, risk management and project management tools, all in an easy-to-use online system. The company was founded in 2013 by Dev Sen and Tobias Queisser. Cinelytic has become one of the most successful startups in the field of AI and ML solutions Entertainment Industry. For example, last year the company received $2.25 million investment from T&B Media Global, the largest film fund in Thailand.
"Hundreds of billions dollars decisions depended on Dev Sen work,"says Co-founder and CEO of Cinelytic Tobias Queisser, about his business partner and chief technical officer. Before joining this industry Tobias Queisser worked in the financial sector where ML has long been used for various purposes: from high-frequency trading to credit risks calculations. Dev Sen, a physicist by training, previously had been working for 15 years in one of the most high-tech organizations in the world — The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), where he was engaged inanalyzing the operational risks of next-generation spacecraft and advancing the field of spaceflight risk assessment and policy.
Correct risks calculation is the key to the success of any project. It’s necessary when it comes to ambitious multi-million-dollar initiatives or to Hollywood blockbusters that are quite comparable in terms of budgets or even to smaller film projects because the principle remains the same. Concerning film industry, high technology can help calculate and predict box office, suggest how to reach the target audience: which actor is better to choose, which genre/topic is better to focus on to interest specific audience segment.
Risk prediction, scenario and casting solutions testing, distribution models optimization is far not the full list of tasks where AI and ML can be implemented.
But before implementing something, it is important to define what we are dealing with. What are AI and ML? What is the difference between these technologies? How they can be implemented in the entertainment industry? These are the questions Dev Sen will answer during the introductory part of his speech at KYIV MEDIA WEEK. He will provide illustrative examples of the implementations of these technologies in cinema, TV, video games, etc. After that, he will proceed to a detailed analysis of major areas of application.
Dev will tell about majors’ best practices. In particular, how AI and ML were implemented in the process of development and production of the film version of the Disney animated classic THE LION KING which hit $1.5 billion at global box office with $260 million budget; in GEMINI MAN (2019), the upcoming sci-fi action movie by Oscar-winning director Ang Lee starring Will Smith. Also, Dev will elaborate on the AI and ML integration into the work of streaming platforms.
Also, he will consider some of the popular questions and concerns regarding these technologies. Is it so effective as they say? Are there any problems and how to solve them? Which key players in the global audiovisual market have already implemented AI and ML in their business processes? How small players can join innovations? Is it true that soon computer algorithms will write scripts, books, music, make films and eventually replace people, or this apocalyptic prediction about "rise of the machines" is a myth born in failure to grasp the essence of what is happening?
Find out the answers to all these questions in Dev Sen speech “How AI and ML are changing the entertainment Industry” which will take place on September 16 at 11:00 at KMW (London conference hall).
“The future is already here and we shouldn’t be afraid of it,” says Victoria Yarmoshchuk, CEO of Media Resources Management, the organizer of KMW.” This year, more than ever before, our program includes events dedicated to the high technologies: AR, VR, blockchain in the entertainment industry. And we are very pleased to see Dev Sen among our speakers — a person with a NASA background who is changing the world of cinema and television using artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies right now.”
KYIV MEDIA WEEK will be held on September 16 – 19 at Hyatt Regency Kyiv (5, Alla Tarasova Street). Registration form is available here.
