18 December 2017, 13:35

On December 15, a one-day conference “Development of animation in Ukraine” took place in Kyiv, organized by the State Enterprise “Ukrainamfilm” with the support of the Korean state associations RAPA and KAPA, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and Ukrainian State Film Agency.

The guests of the conference were: Yevhen Nyshchuk, Minister of Culture of Ukraine; Mikhail Titarchuk, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine; Oleksiy Reznikov, Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration; Philip Illienko, Head of the State Film Agency; Lee Yang-Goo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine; Yulia Fediv, National Office of the EU Creative Europe Program in Ukraine; Lee Seung Hoon, Director General of AB Media Co (Korea); Jeon Hong Deog (Jeon Hong Deog), CEO of Mico studio (Korea); Sergei Sozanovsky, founder FILM.UA Group (Ukraine); Elena Golubeva, UAnimA (Ukraine); and Alexander Dobroer Impact Hub (Ukraine).

Organizers say that the main goal of the event was to sum up and discuss the achievements of the Ukrainian animation industry in 2017, its plans for the future, as well as search for new opportunities for the development of animation and production of media content together.

The conference program consisted of three parts. At the beginning of the event, all participants had the opportunity to listen to the presentations on the theme “Development of animation and creative community in Ukraine and existing opportunities”. At the end of the first part, the presentation of the development plan of the Ukrainian company “Ukranimafilm” and the presentation of the animation series ‘Smart Babies’ (Ukraine) were presented to the audience. The culmination of the conference was the signing of the Memorandum on the joint production of animated series ‘Smart Babies’ between Ukranimafilm and the Korean studio AB Media Co.

It should be noted that the first tangible steps towards the cooperation in this field between our countries were made in September this year in the course of KYIV MEDIA WEEK 2017 – with the support of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting, a memorandum of cooperation for production of audiovisual content. In addition, in the course of this year's media forum, a Ukrainian-Korean round table “Ukraine and Korea: results of cooperation and search for new forms of partnership in media” took place. This event, in its turn, was a continuation of KYIV MEDIA WEEK 2016, which was supplemented by a series of special events dedicated to South Korea.

Congratulations to our colleagues from Ukranimafilm with the signing of the Memorandum. We hope that the initiated cooperation between Ukraine and South Korea will only gain momentum, and we will be able to see and discuss its further successes and practical results during the next KYIV MEDIA WEEK, which will be held on September 17-21, 2018.
