20 September 2017, 10:40

On September 18th international media consultancy K7 Media has explored the emerging trend of reviving old formats with modern twists in a keynote presentation at the Format Show in Kyiv, Ukraine in the course of KYIV MEDIA WEEK 2017.

K7 Media’s communications manager David Ciaramella delivered A Familiar Future: The Reboot Renaissance to a packed conference audience, which learned about old shows being brought up-to-date and relevant with the right changes to the host, contestants, look, and in some cases platform, but with the same tried and tested mechanic.

Ciaramella also highlighted the best examples of revivals and reboots around the globe, offering his insight into why audiences are eager for evergreen entertainment. He particularly focused on how classic formats are being brought to new audiences on digital platforms such as Snapchat, Netflix and Facebook.

Examples include classic formats and series revived on television – The Gong Show, The Crystal Maze and cult classic Twin Peaks – as well as digital reboots of Cribs, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and Club Mickey Mouse.

Ciaramella said: "It was, as always, a delight to speak to and attend KYIV MEDIA WEEK. With so many formats being updated for today’s audiences it was great to be able to share our insight into how classic IP is being brought back to life across TV and digital platforms."

For the third consecutive occasion K7 Media was appointed as Knowledge Partner at KYIV MEDIA WEEK.

The global conference and screening Format Show, headed by Ukrainian media consultancy Media Resources Management (MRM) and dedicated to the TV format industry, brought together industry business experts from around the globe meet to explore current and emerging trends.
