1 September 2017, 10:45

The 10th conference "Film Business: Challenges, Features, Opportunities" will be held on September 20 in the course of KYIV MEDIA WEEK 2017. Since its inception in 2008, the conference has become a popular meeting point for film industry professionals from all over the world, a platform aimed at business networking, launching new partnerships, sharing experience as well as discussing current film industry development issues both in the region and worldwide with special focus on film co-production.

The conference agenda includes presentations of case studies, reports on essential film industry issues, panel discussions with invited international experts. The sections  of the conference:

  • case study "Feature film ‘Class Reunion’ (‘Klassikokkutulek’)", Estonia. The film with a fairly modest budget grossed a million Euros on domestic market. Considering the fact that there are only 50 cinemas in Estonia, this is a very high result. Now the second part of the successful story is in production.
  • case study "Festival and Distribution Success. Horror Movie ‘Grave’ (‘Raw’), co-production of France and Belgium". Julia Ducournau's directorial debut was developed at the Torino Film Lab, was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize at the Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival, was presented at the Toronto Festival and won many other awards. It saw successful theatrical release in the USA. Releases throughout Europe are underway while the rights are  sold to numerous territories.
  • case study "Co-production between China and Italy – feature film ‘Caffe’ (‘Coffee’)". All major forums are considering whether it is possible and how to cooperate with the giant market of China, where there are more than 44,000 screens, and their number is growing by almost 20 screens every day, and a successful film can gross hundreds of millions of dollars. It’s worth mentioning that China is interested in finding partners in Europe as well. What exactly Chinese producers and authors are looking for we will find out at the conference.

Also at the 10th Film Business conference we will talk about co-production with Turkey, state support of the film industry, analysis of theatrical box office in European countries, etc. Among the speakers there are Kristian Taska, Producer, Founder of Taska Film, Estonia; Jean-Yves Roubin, Producer, Founder of Frakas Productions, Belgium; Cristiano Bortone, Producer, Founder of Orisa Produzioni, Head of Bridging the Dragon, Italy and others.
