Last week the annual contest for concepts of new non-scripted entertainment formats SMALL WORLD. BIG IDEAS kicked off, with the call for entries remaining open until March 15. Starting in 2015, the contest is organized by Media Resources Management (Ukraine) in partnership with the international distributor Small World IFT (USA) and the year's most anticipated global market for entertainment content across all platforms – MIPCOM (France).
Despite the rules and selection criteria remaining the same, interest to the contest is growing year by year. Participants from the 2015 and 2016 editions, who didn’t make it to the final, still have the confidence in themselves, their ideas and the contest to return with new bold ideas to participate in SMALL WORLD. BIG IDEAS 2017. This once again confirms the feasibility of our project and the inexhaustible potential of format creators.
The contest partners – Small World IFT and MIPCOM – are also confident in the success of SMALL WORLD. BIG IDEAS 2017, primarily because of the results of the previous two years: each edition of the contest gathered more than 80 deserving ideas of entertainment shows, and the geography of participants has grown significantly. Since last year, the competition has acquired international status, applications came not only from Ukraine and CIS region, but also from abroad – Baltic States, Israel, and even the United States.
What does the winner of SMALL WORLD. BIG IDEAS. actually get? The prizes include promising international recognition with Small World IFT and promenades along Côte d'Azur during MIPCOM (learn more about the prizes on the official contest page).
And what’s the fate of the winning shows from the previous years?
Let’s recall that in 2016 the winner of SMALL WORLD. BIG IDEAS was Lital Shemesh from Israel with a reality show COME TO BED. A year earlier, producers Nana Sukhanova and Pavel Peleshko from Selena Films (Ukraine) won the hearts of the expert jury with their project DRIVE THIS!.
President of Small World IFT, Tim Crescenti, reveals the success of both projects since they won the competition: "We are still working with Nana and one major Scandinavian broadcaster on DRIVE THIS!, where celebrities compete in driving skills on different vehicles. Premiere is expected for 2018. As for Lital’s reality show COME TO BED – we have partnered with major US prodco Mission Control to develop and produce this format for a US cable channel. We have also optioned the format to two other countries”. |
There is no need to say much about the other part of the prize: MIPCOM and MIPTV content markets are like Mecca for the global media community. When you come to the market in Cannes with your product – it’s the first step to a whole new level. More than 13,000 TV industry professionals from all over the world, the opportunity to meet key players of the international format business, to communicate and share experiences with colleagues from other countries, dozens of inspiring sessions, presentations and screenings – all this and much more is squeezed into four intensive days at the MIP markets.
So clear your mind of doubts, life is worth trying. In turn, the organizers of SMALL WORLD. BIG IDEAS contest guarantee an objective assessment of all submitted ideas by an expert jury. The winner takes it all.
The final round of the contest will be held on April 21 in Kyiv in the course of FORMAT SHOW Spring Edition conference.
