At KYIV MEDIA WEEK 2016 lots of events were dedicated to Korean media industry, namely: Round table Ukraine and Korea: Opportunities for Cooperation in Media, special presentation and screening of Korean formats by KOCCA at FORMAT SHOW, Korean umbrella stand at Ukrainian Content Market. Korean delegation gained a lot of interest and had a success at KMW.
To continue the cooperation between our countries, big delegation of Ukrainian media industry executives recently visited Seoul (on November 13-17). Among the Ukrainian guests there were representatives of the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine, Ukrainian Motion Picture Association, FILM.UA Group, StarLightMedia and Media Resources Management. Ukrainian side expresses gratitude to the Ambassador of The Republic of Korea in Ukraine, His Excellency Mr. Lee Yang-goo for the assistance in the organization of the trip.
The visit was aimed at the development of cooperation between the countries’ in the spheres of TV, movie and media in general. Ukrainian delegation was accorded by open-armed welcome and held a range of meetings with key players of Korean media market (incl. KBS, CJ E&M, SBS, RAPA, MBC, Seoul Film Commission and others) during which they presented high quality Ukraine-produced content (incl. features, formats, animation), CGI/VFX services, Ukraine-based studios’ facilities, unique filming locations etc. The host country representatives expressed high interest in launching strong long-term cooperation between both countries’ media companies and offered to extend it in the following areas: joint development/production of media content, participation of Ukrainian media-specialists in RAPA’s programs on exchange of experience. Ukrainian side was also offered consultancy and expert assistance in the transition from analog to digital TV broadcasting as well as in introduction of Mobile TV in Ukraine.
Victoria Yarmoshchuk, Executive Director of Ukrainian Motion Picture Association and CEO of Media Resources Management says: “Now there is a lot of cooperation going between Korea and Ukraine: Korean formats are adapted for the Ukrainian market, Korean music become popular in our country, various activities aimed at cooperation between the two countries in various fields are held. We are confident that our country has great potential for cooperation with Korea in content production and distribution. During the visit we had lots of fruitful negotiations, which I hope will soon become real joint projects”.
And there’s more – on November 24 Korea TV Content Showcase will take place at Hyatt Regency Kyiv hotel (Kyiv, Ukraine). Top Korean prodcos and content distributors will present the newest dramas, series and animation to Ukrainian colleagues.
KMW team keeps fingers crossed and is looking forward to announce first fruitful results of mutually beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea at the VII edition of KMW in September 2017.
