Good news for modern family dramedy fans: shooting of Dad Dan – Ukrainian adaptation of the successful New Zealand series has started. The original version entitled Step Dave first appeared on New Zealand’s TV2 channel in February 2014.
Format rights to Step Dave were acquired from British distributor all3media international by FILM.UA company, while its production arm is engaged in the series’ local version creation.
“It seems to us that the issue of age mismatch in relationships is of vital importance now. You can see similar couples everywhere. The age boundaries have blurred. It is often hard to determine how old someone is. Even though couples, where a woman is older than man are still somewhat frowned upon in society, because it is believed that they don’t last long. Still, this story does not try to prove the contrary; the characters understand the complexity of the issue perfectly well and people around them constantly point to it as well… Still, they are incredibly attracted to each other,” says Olesya Lukyanenko, creative producer. “It is not a classic comedy; there are no jokes just for the fun of it. The ways characters react to the situation are funny and dramatic at the same time. Both have well-detailed and rich personalities. And as this story is first of all about relationships it was not hard to adapt. Human drama is universal and understood all over the world.”
The premiere date of the 16-series dramedy is still kept a secret, filming will take place in Kyiv till the end of August 2016.
