News From UCM Participants: FILM.UA’s Successful Debut at Marché du Film

One of the largest film markets in the world Marché du Film finished last week in Cannes. This year one of the biggest Ukrainian powerhouses - FILM.UA Group debuted at the market with its own stand, moreover – the event was very fruitful for the company, and its distribution arm – FILM.UA Distribution – has signed a number of successful contracts. It should be noted, that some of the deals were concluded on projects which are still in production – that proves their high quality and increase of foreign players’ credibility to the Ukrainian prodco.

Polish media group Polsat acquired the theatrical rights to full length animation The Stolen Princess (Ruslan and Lyudmila) in Poland. Tale based on Alexander Pushkin’s story has been also acquired by KLB (for France and French-speaking territories), ProFilms (Bulgaria) and Cinema 24 (Iran). Theatrical release of The Stolen Princess in Ukraine is scheduled for late 2017, and the television rights were acquired by Novy Channel. Production is made by Animagrad studio, part of FILM.UA Group.

Also, FILM.UA Distribution licensed television rights to the fantasy feature The Stronghold and detective series The Sniffer to Cinema 24 (Iran). The Stronghold is based on the book of Ukrainian writer Vladimir Rutkowski, which tells a story about the adventures of a schoolboy from the 21st century, who went through a time portal to the time when the ancient Rusichi opposed the invasion of cumans. The film is produced by Kinorob, part of FILM.UA Group, and will premiere in Ukraine on December 22, 2016. Local distributor B&H Film Distribution Company will manage the theatrical release. TV version will be aired on Novy Channel. The Sniffer received worldwide fame after the release of the first season back in 2013, and it confirmed the title of the most famous Ukrainian series after the second season in 2015. The Sniffer has been already sold in more than 60 countries all around the world, including the US, Canada and Japan.

FILM.UA Distribution is among first exhibitors who booked a stand at Ukrainian Content Market 2016, which will be held on September 20-21 in the course of sixth international media forum KYIV MEDIA WEEK at Hyatt Regency Kyiv.
