TV Series and Non-Scripted Shows are the Basic Types of Ukrainian TV Programming Content

At the KMW opening press conference: Media Business in the Era of Transformations. First of all Challenges – are Possibilities. Television as Business – is it Real? The head of analytical department of the Ukrainian company Media Resources Management Artem Vakalyuk presented data from a study of content types broadcasted by 10 largest Ukrainian TV channels in 2014. According to the company, the share of scripted TV-series on the air of Top-10 Ukrainian broadcasters counted for 31% of the total broadcasting time. In absolute figures, it is more than 27 thousand hours of broadcast.

The three most popular types of content broadcasted in Ukraine, also includes non-scripted television programs and shows (22% or almost 19 thousand hours), and feature films and movies (15% or more than 13 thousand hours). Almost 7% of the total air time was occupied by news, 6% - by animation and 2% - by documentary projects.

It is necessary to mention that, Russia produced series counted for almost 66% out of total scripted series broadcasted time, Russian-Ukrainian coproduction counted for 6%. The share of the Ukrainian series was 5%.

As for non-scripted shows, their total broadcasted time almost reached 19 thousand hours. About 85% of them were produced in Ukraine by local broadcasters and indie production companies.
