Not so much water has flowed under the bridge since that time when we drew up the results of KYIV MEDIA WEEK 2011. Nevertheless the high business activity during international conference and screening of the newest TV formats Format Show didn’t pass in vain. Today we are glad to present to your attention the list of successful deals between Ukrainian TV channels and foreign format developers and distributors, which were done during last month. Moreover, we sincerely hope that these negotiations trace their roots to Format Show 2011.
On recent days it came to our knowledge that French distributor Banijay International has licensed its shiny floor game show Honey, Pack the Bags! to New TV Channel. 12 x 60’ episodes of the show will go into production shortly, to air in a weekly prime time slot in early 2012. The concept of Honey, Pack the Bags! was created by the ever popular French television personality Nagui, who is also the show’s host on primary broadcaster France 2. Each episode sees three audience members do battle in a series of crazy challenges and general knowledge questions, in order to earn the points they need to pack their bags and win the holiday of a lifetime. Honey, Pack the Bags! owes its popularity with French audiences to its unique blend of shiny floor entertainment and traditional game show formats. Let us recall, that the show was premiered to Ukrainian audience in course of Format Show 2011.
Another Ukrainian TV Channel TET has also made a deal with Banijay International with a view to local adaptation of reality show Tempted, and accordingly TET is going to produce 60 x 60’ episodes. The format has been sold for the first time to Eastern Europe territories, as far as it was premiered to the world media community in September 2011 on Format Show in course of KYIV MEDIA WEEK events. Tempted is the epic new reality sensation where everything comes at a price. A sexy and exotic location turns into the Garden of Eden for 10 contestants, who find that trees of temptation have been planted in every corner of their luxurious mansion. With an alluring, glamorous setting as a backdrop, Tempted is an action-packed reality series mixed with a weekly soap opera of biblical proportions that navigates the ethical and moral minefield of the common good vs individual gain, constantly asking the question: How far will you go?
The deal between British distributor DRG and Ukrainian STB TV Channel is also worth of giving a particular emphasis. STB has acquired the license for a local adaptation of the factual entertainment show - Teenage Boss. According to the format the teenager assume responsibility for the whole family’s budget throughout an entire month. The intention is to teach the teenager (and the family) to spend the money at hand in a sensible, balanced way. This is television at its most entertaining, but with meaningful ’take out’ for the viewer. The programmes are entertaining but also educational in a humorous manner. Through realistic and fun challenges, teenagers and their families are seriously put to the test.
Besides, the media market is full of rumors about a preliminary deal between Inter TV Channel and ITV Studios – world known format developer from the UK. According to the unofficial data, British prodco has licensed its game show Red or Black to Inter. Over the course of a week, seven people will face a life-defining moment as they are offered the chance to walk away with one million pounds. To win, all they need is luck on their side and to successfully choose the correct outcome, Red or Black? Guess wrong and they walk away with nothing. Every night for seven nights, Red or Black? could make one of them a millionaire. The show Red or Black is very spectacular. It should be mentioned, that the show was premiered to the mainstream audience in Ukraine in course of the Format Show 2011 program.
