Scripted formats experience vigorous growth in popularity

April 6, 2014, the closing day of the conference MIPFormats was dedicated to the latest trends in global TV formats business, Virginia Mouseler, CEO of The WIT presented case study entitled 2014: The Explosion of Scripted Formats. According to The WIT, 96 local series based on foreign scripted formats were launched in 2013. Compared to 2010, 67 series were launched then, the gross number of scripted formats’ adaptations increased by 45%. In 2014 the popularity of scripted formats will continue to grow.

TOP-5 most creative territories of origin of scripted formats ever sold abroad include the United Kingdom – 79, the USA – 72, Argentina – 52, Spain – 36, and Columbia – 31. During the last 5 years new players entered the market such as Israel and Australia.

The USA, Russia and Mexico are the leading importers of scripted formats – 119, 87 and 73 formats respectively were ever sold to these territories. Portugal – 43, and Turkey – 41, complete the TOP-5 scripted formats importers list. As for the distributors that are the most successful in selling scripted formats company names goes as follows.
