Major Hollywood studios: 2013 summary

In 2013 each of six Hollywood majors released internationally at least 10 movies (including feature length animation films) resulting in increasing worldwide box office gross up to $22.16 billion.

The following is the summary of the last year’s box office results with the titles of majors’ most successful releases.

Warner Bros. closed 2013 as a leading studio in both global ticket sales with total box office $5.04 billion and global market share 22.7%

Warner Bros.'s domestic revenue was $1.9 billion, while its overseas haul was $3.14 billion. The studio's performance was fueled by a varied menu of films, led by Superman reboot Man of Steel - $662.8 million.

Disney enjoyed its best year in history - $4.73 billion globally including $1.72 billion of the domestic revenue and $3.01 billion of the international box office. The leading role in Disney’s success story was played by Iron Man 3 closing the whole with $1.2 billion.

Universal is the third of six majors - studio's global revenue reached $3.67 billion including $2.25 billion internationally and $1.42 billion of US box office. Despicable Me 2 collecting $918.8 million was Universal’s box office leader in 2013.

Global revenue of 20TH CENTURY FOX totaled $3.40 billion in 2013. 3D animation The Croods by DreamWorks Animation was the best release - $587.2 billion.

Sony’s global revenue –$3.01 billion – comprise international box office $1.91 billion. Studios biopic Captain Phillips earned $210 million.

Paramount closes list of majors with $2.31 billion. Its zombie action movie World War Z took in $540 million worldwide in 2013 so the studio is announced the sequel.
