According to the official data provided by the event organizers Reed Midem company, the market gathered 12.8 thousand media professionals from 102 countries, including 1.7 thousand content distributors and 4.4 thousand buyers. Traditionally, the biggest sellers on the market are companies from USA, UK, France and Canada. It is predicted that the main deals of this market will be related to historical dramas and inexpensive reality.
On the opening day on October 8 was held an Annual Press Lunch, organized by the Disney Media Distribution, as well as Women in Global Entertainment Power Lunch, which brought together 100 of the most influential women of the forum.
Next day was held a Latam Global Dealmakers Networking Lunch, where participants focused on coproduction and deals made with regard to the entertainment content on the Latin American market and beyond.
Among the speakers of MIPCOM 2012 there are Harvey Weinstein, co-founder of Miramax, Mark Burnett, president of One Three Media, Robert Kyncl, content manager at Google and YouTube, Jason Kilar, CEO at Hulu, Bruce Rosenblum, president of Warner Bros Television Group and many others.
This year the focus of MIPCOM is on Canada. In the course of series of special events the market participants have a chance to get acquainted with the peculiarities of this country’s media market and learn more about the cooperation opportunities with Canada.
In general, the conference program, which traditionally accompanies the main event - the content market, covers all the major issues of contemporary television. Particularly, a lot of workshops and discussions are devoted to the Internet, audience migration, search of new ideas and formats. Newest television formats were presented at the screening Around the World organized by Fresh TV. The screening organizers noted, that most of the new formats that have appeared in recent years around the world fit into the so-called GMOOH!-Trend. Abbreviation stands for “Get me out of here!” and reflects the desire of the audience, captured by the broadcasters, to watch show participants overcoming all kinds of crises, from the personal to the global economic.
Cannes market was attended by the all the leaders of the four largest Ukrainian media holdings. Among the first deals of the market it’s worth to mention a deal between the Spanish-speaking broadcaster Venevision International and the American company Electus for distribution rights to such formats as The Black Widow, Millionaire Maid and Country of Women.
